BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS

Quality of Life

Everyone I talk to tells me how nice our 5 th district community used to be. I believe it can be that way again. I still love DeKalb County. We have a solid foundation on which to re-build. But that is going to take a commitment to improve and increase basic services, such as code enforcement, trash pick-up, street lighting, beautification, proper zoning, and public safety.

We have been neglected for far too long. I propose new ordinances for increased signage and penalties for littering, street lighting utilizing SPLOST dollars, and issuing a landscaping contract for public spaces that includes long-term, ongoing maintenance.

I oppose development which is harmful to our environment and health. I encourage development that enhances our neighbourhood and protects our property values. What is currently missing implementation of these measures in a comprehensive, sustainable manner, required to achieve maximum impact.

First, we need to ensure SPLOST funds are spent efficiently and fairly countywide. I've proposed a reporting template to the SPLOST Community Oversight Group to address this. Second, South/East DeKalb residents have long funded MARTA without seeing adequate returns. It's time to move from planning to action, with specific project proposals including designs, costs, and timelines. As Commissioner, I'll ensure proper oversight of SPLOST and prioritize transportation projects benefiting District 5. Let's get to work.

Fiscal Responsibility

Public Safety

We must collaborate with the Police Chief and citizens to ensure fair distribution of police patrols across the county, leveraging technology like video surveillance. I advocate for boosting resources for neighborhood watch and community-based initiatives, addressing root causes of crime like mental health, investing in youth programs, and ensuring competitive compensation for police officers. Our budget should prioritize public safety above all else.

Create opportunities for small businesses

Would you like to see more shopping alternatives and dining options without driving across town to other cities?

I support creating and expanding opportunities for small business development by leveraging county tax dollars.  I support the extension of MARTA rail to South/East DeKalb.  Transportation hubs attract economic development.  It is a myth that extended rail will bring more crime to our community.  Observe the economic growth and transformation of the thriving Perimeter Mall area, Sandy Springs, and the Lindbergh neighborhood once those rail stations were completed.

In order to stimulate economic development in South/East DeKalb, we must stimulate and expand the market.
